Lakers on the Hunt for Upgrades and Dennis Smith Jr. Wants In

The Lakers are hunting for roster upgrades, and everyone knows it. They’re eyeing moves to bolster their depth, especially at backup center and the guard/wing spots. Trades are the big talk, but free agency and buyout options are also on the table—though the choices there aren’t exactly fire.

Enter Dennis Smith Jr., former Knicks guard, who’s throwing his name in the mix. On The OGs Show, Smith hyped himself up as a solid free-agent option for teams like the Spurs, Wolves, Heat, and yep, the Lakers. "Anybody could use a dawg," he said, flexing his summer grind and last season’s work as proof he can make an impact.

Smith was a big deal as a rookie back in 2017, averaging 15.2 points and 5.2 assists. But after that? His career took a nosedive with injuries and inconsistent play. The 6’3” guard isn’t known for shooting threes or locking up on defense, but he’s athletic and can handle the ball—so, there’s that.

Last seen hooping for the Nets in 2023-24, Smith could be a decent bench piece for a team needing extra depth. Whether the Lakers bite or not, it’s clear he’s ready to prove he’s still got it.
